Overview

Shayan has considerable experience, both contentious and non-contentious, in advising and representing clients in matters relating to arbitration, banking, company, competition, commercial, contracts, constitutional & administrative law, corporate finance, cross-border recoveries, employment, foreign exchange laws, insurance, international trade (L/Cs and other documentary credits), Islamic finance, IP, mergers and acquisitions (M&As), partnership, and regulatory proceedings. He maintains an active portfolio of corporate advisory as well as civil, commercial, and constitutional litigation practice before the High Court of Sindh at Karachi and various judicial, quasi-judicial, and specialist tribunals.

In the corporate practice area, Shayan has undertaken extensive advisory and transactional work, being an integral member of the legal team advising on Pakistan’s first LNG Import Terminal Project set up at Port Qasim, Karachi, as well as leading legal teams on multiple financing transactions, including structuring of complex Islamic financing products and documentation. In addition, he has been actively involved in advising on corporate acquisitions and company law matters, arising under Companies Act 2017.

In his litigation practice, Shayan has acted as counsel in trials, appeals, and constitutional petitions before the High Courts and various administrative and quasi-judicial tribunals in a diverse array of matters. As a litigator, he is recognized as a skilled advocate and tenacious in his pursuit of achieving the clients’ objectives. He is regularly engaged by local and foreign companies, partnerships, and private clients for their complex litigation matters. He is also regularly instructed by UK law firms, as a joint expert under Part 35 of UK CPR Rules, to provide legal advice and report to the courts at the UK with regard to property matters and repatriation of funds outside Pakistan.

Shayan is also the Co-Founder and Director of Themis School of Law, a renowned law school in Karachi offering the LLB (Hons) Programme of the University of London. Additionally, Shayan also conducts trainings and workshops on various legal practice areas, as a Trainer at the Centre for Professional Development and Studies at Themis School of Law.
